Who it is for
Deep tissue suits you if a particular area keeps bothering you: a stiff neck, tight shoulders, a sore lower back or tired legs. Guests often book it after a long flight, a week of carrying bags, or a run of diving, golf, gym sessions or other sport. If you came here searching for a sports massage, this is the closest treatment on our menu. It is not the best choice if you mainly want to drift off; for that, try our Swedish massage.
What to expect
Your therapist asks what is bothering you and works slowly, using firm strokes and sustained pressure on the tight areas. You will feel it, and some moments can be intense, but it should never feel unbearable. Say so at any time if you want less pressure, and your therapist will adjust. Afterwards it is normal to feel a little tender for a while, so give yourself an easy hour or two rather than rushing to the next activity, and drink some water.
50 or 80 minutes?
Fifty minutes works well when you have one or two problem areas, such as the neck and shoulders. Eighty minutes gives your therapist time to work more slowly and cover the whole back and legs as well. If it is your first deep tissue massage, 50 minutes is a sensible place to start, and you can always come back for longer.
